Ospoly Students Write Adeleke Over Management's Plan To Subvert SUG Election

Students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree has written Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State over alleged management collusion to subert the upcoming Students Union Government elections in the institution.

The students in a letter signed by Sodiq Alarape and Mathew Adejare on behalf of Ospoly students accused the school Management, Dean of students Affairs, Dr. Tope Abiola and Chairman of the Independent Students Electoral Commission of planning to fraudulently install a particular candidate in the upcoming SUG election.

The students in the letter noted that the Management is planning to deliberately delay the election so as to give room for their annointed candidate who is presently unavailable to have time to contest.

They noted that the appointment of Dr. Tope Abiola was tailored to suit the agenda.

The students however demanded from Governor Ademola Adeleke a thorough investigation into the alleged collusion between the trio.

Osun State Commissioner for Education, Chairman, Governing Council of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, the Commissioner of police in Osun, the Director, Department of State Service, the Dean Students Affairs, ASUP and NANS Zone D and Osun Axis were copied in the letter.

The copy of the letter obtained by BEYOND AFRICA reads: "Your Excellency sir, we hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. We are writing to bring to your attention a matter of utmost concern regarding the upcoming students' election in Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. It has come to our notice, and the notice of several concerned students, that there is an ongoing collusion between the School Management, Dean of Student's Affairs and the Chairman of the Independent Students Electoral Commission to favor and install  a particular candidate in the upcoming Students' Union Election.

"As students that are we deeply invested in the principles of fairness, transparency, and integrity within our esteemed institution, we find it imperative to express our collective concern about the potential compromise of the electoral process. Such actions not only undermine the democratic spirit of the student body but also has capacity to cause serious crisis and eventually tarnish the image of the school.

"Your Excellency sir, we have it on very good authority that the management plans to do the following:

"Deliberately delay the conduct of the Student's Union election so as to give room for their anointed candidate who is presently unavailable to have time to contest.

"To also delay the conduct of the election until the planned increment of new payable fees against next session are implemented.

"The appointment of Dr. Tope Abiola  was tailored to suit that agenda.

"The statement of the DSA on his first day of resumption in a meeting with the Independent Students Electoral Commission Executive querying them them why no student from his department (Mass Communication) wasn't among the leadership of the Commission. We strongly believe he is looking for someone that will carry out his dirty job as part of the leadership of the Commission.

"The DSA equally called for the extension of sales of form for the Students' Union Election after closure date to accommodate their preferred candidate when they're nowhere to be found.

"The Independent Students Electoral Commission Chairman is helping the DSA/Management in their dirty job by unilaterally deciding to accept e-voting to make it easy in manipulating the  election results for their anointed candidate without following the procedure for such as provided by the constitution of the union. He has been unable to officially roll out the schedule of election till date.

"These actions have led to a growing perception that the electoral process as it is presently going will aurbvert the will of the students.

In light of these concerns, we kindly request that:

"A thorough and impartial investigation be conducted into the collusion between the School Management, Dean of Students Affairs and the Independent Students Electoral Commission Chairman. It is crucial for the credibility of the student election and the overall reputation of our institution that any misconduct is identified and addressed promptly.

"The schedule of election be published immediately without further delay and in conformity with the earlier agreed time frame for registration of candidates. Only then can we begin to believe the electoral process

"We believe in the commitment of your office to uphold the values of fairness and justice in" line with your pact with the people and students of Osun state. We trust that your office will take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and maintain the trust of the student body in the institution's governance to avoid break down of law and order.

"Thank you for your time and consideration. Looking forward to a swift and just resolution on this matter."
