Nigerian Graduate Burns His Certificates Over Unemployment

A young Nigerian graduate of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, identified as Olutimain Alvin has reportedly burnt all his academic certificates over inability to secure a job after graduation, BEYOND AFRICA gathered.

In a viral video on social media, watched by the medium saw Alvin burning his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge Certificate together with his University Degree, WAEC and other certificates.

According to a report trending online, the graduate tore all the certificates, and then set them ablaze because he could not secure a job after graduation.

He said: “I graduated in 2010, did my NYSC in 2011. Over 13 years, I have not used this certificates to do anything. It is better to even be an illietrate than to have certificates that is useless.”

He, however, urged parents to get their children involved in skills that can enhance their productivity without relying on a white-collar job.

BEYOND AFRICA reports that Alvin is not the first Nigerian graduate to do this, recall that in 2019, a graduate burnt all his certificates, saying school is the biggest scam in the world.

In a video shared online, he was seen burning all his school certificates from Junior High School to the University level.

According to him, going to school and acquiring all the certificates does not guarantee success, based on his own experience.
