Wike, Fubara Loyalists Battle For Control Of Rivers Assembly

Two factions of Rivers State House of Assembly have intensified their claims to be in control of the leadership, BEYOND AFRICA gathered.

However, 25 lawmakers of the House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, said they held a sitting at the Assembly Complex, yesterday morning. 

It was gathered that the lawmakers successfully deliberated on two items concerning the suspension of the strike by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria.

The lawmakers also asked the police to prosecute the burning of the chamber.   

Four police vans are stationed at the entrance of thep House of Assembly complex.

No vehicular and human movements were allowed on the Moscow Road axis of Port Harcourt during the sitting.

It was gathered that some senior police officers locked the entrance of the Assembly complex after the sitting.

Similarly, faction, led by Edison Ehie, has passed a vote of confidence in the Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. The faction, in a statement by Ken Uchendu, legislative correspondent, said the House commended the governor on his developmental strides and security initiatives to keep Rivers State peaceful.

The faction said it takes a man of great vision and peace to steer the ship of development for the benefit of the people of the state.

Also, the House resolved to continuously give the governor the required support to accomplish his consolidation and continuity agenda to benefit the state.

The lawmakers condemned the attack on the speaker’s (Ehie) residence and the burning of the hallowed chamber of the House of Assembly.


The House appealed to the governor to commence the rehabilitation works as soon as possible.

Furthermore, the House impressed on the need for the inspector general of police and other related security apparatus of state to investigate those attacks and bring the culprits to book.
