Osun Students Call For Maximum Security On Campuses, Host Communities
Students in Osun have called on security agencies especially police to ensure adequate security in all tertiary institutions and their host communities across the state.
The students made the call under the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Zone D, National Association Of Nigerian Students Osun Joint Campus and other sister Associations during their visit to the state Commissioner of Police, CP Isyaku Mohammed at the state police Command, Osogbo, yesterday.
The students in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of NANS ZONE D, Oluwadamilola Bamigboye noted that the meeting with the Commissioner of Police is centred at ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerian Students in Osun State.
In his address, CP Mohammed assured the students representatives of the police efforts to enhance security measures in and around campuses in the state while urging students to report any security threats in their domains.
The statement reads: "A significant step towards enhancing the security of campuses and the host community in Osun State was taken today as representatives from various student bodies engaged in a productive dialogue with the Commissioner of Police. The meeting, held at the Commissioner's office, focused on crucial issues concerning the safety and well-being of Nigerian students.
"In attendance were representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Zone D, National Association Of Nigerian Students Osun Joint Campus Council, National Association Of University Student Osun CMC, National Female Students Association of Nigerian Osun State chapter, National Association Of Osun State Students National Body, and Council of Students Union Government Presidents of Osun State Campuses.
"During the dialogue, several concerns related to campus security and the relationship between students and law enforcement were tabled. The Commissioner of Police attentively listened to the issues raised and responded with a commitment to improving the services provided by the police force to Nigerian students.
"The Commissioner assured the student representatives that efforts would be made to enhance security measures in and around campuses. He expressed the importance of a collaborative approach, urging students to report any security concerns promptly.
"The students Leadership appreciates the Commissioner of Police for his responsiveness and commitment to addressing the security challenges faced by Nigerian students. The engagement represents a positive step towards fostering a safer environment for learning and personal development.
"As advocates for the rights and welfare of students, we will continue to monitor the implementation of these commitments and collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure the security and well-being of Nigerian students in Osun State."
