A man, Arthur Benjamin, who attempted to sell his company’s car to raise money to relocate his family to Ghana has been arrested by the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command. The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin. Just In: Court Declares Rivers N800bn 2024 Budget Illegal

The N800bn 2024 budget signed into law by the Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara has been declared illegal and nullified by the Federal High Court, Abuja on Monday. Recall that Fubara in December, presented an N800bn 2024 Appropriation Bill to a faction of the state House of Assembly, comprising four lawmakers. Fubara subsequently signed the budget into law, following the passage of the budget by the lawmakers. Nigerian popular musician, Habeeb okikiola Popular Known as Portable Zazzu was attacked on Monday morning, and by extension rushed to hospital. The singer shared videos and pictures on his Instagram story from what looks like an argument with some unknown men in an apartment after he was physically assaulted. Portable also shared receipts from hospital where he is currently receiving treatments at somewhere on Lagos Island. A former Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, says that the only financial benefit he receives from the state government is a N577,000 monthly pension. This is as the former Minister of Works and Housing debunked claims that he was receiving billions of naira from the Federal Government after serving eight years as the minister. A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Abdu Danbaffa of Bilbiya village was on Wednesday, sentenced to seven years in prison for cutting off his friend’s hand. Danbaffa was sentenced by the Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State. The police prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Umr, said on January 11, 2024, one Usman Umar reported to the state CID Division that “Muhammad Abdu cut off his right-hand palm due to some misunderstanding you had on December 12, 2023, that led to a fight.” According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to Section 221 of the Borno State penal code law. The defendant pleaded guilty as charged when the FIR was read to him.

A two-year-old toddler, Bronson Battersby, starved to death next to his dead father Kenneth five days after he suffered a heart attack in the United Kingdom, Daily Mail reports. According to the family, Battersby was found curled up in his pyjamas next to his father, 60, who is believed to have suffered a heart attack shortly after he was last seen alive on Boxing Day. A social worker visited their home in Skegness, Lincolnshire on January 2, for a routine visit but received no reply and contacted the police.  They visited again on January 4 but again there was no response. A former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba has praised the Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government,  Hon. Amb. Ogunsola  Adeshina Lanre for developmental strides of his administration. He expressed satisfaction particularly with the legacy projects embarked upon by the council chairman. Osoba made the commendation when he received the council chairman and his entourage in his house in Abeokuta on monday. The ex governor submitted that Ogunsola has made him so proud in his committed efforts in developing Obafemi Owode Local Government. The APC National Leader maintained that he is impressed by the current level of the development in the rural area of the local government, saying that rural development is very sacrosanct. I Lost My Brother In Ibadan Explosion – Survivor

A survivor of the explosion that occurred at Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State on Tuesday night, who simply identified himself as Adeleke, said he lost his elder brother to the incident. BEYOND AFRICA had earlier reported an explosion in parts of the state capital. There were also videos online that showed dusty clouds and burning houses and cars. The survivor, who spoke with a local broadcasting station, Lagelu FM, asserted that they were at the hotel in the area playing tennis before his brother sought to go out to attend to something before the explosion caused a stir that sent a sharp object that gave him a deep cut in his stomach. Adeleke said, “He came out to the front of the transformer where the incident happened. His intestines were out after the cut.” He identified his late brother as Oladipupo, noting that he was rushed to the Adeoyo General Hospital immediately after the incident.
