The Call For Unity In Osun APC By Banik Needs To Be Sincere

By Folarin Fafowora

The recent press statement by Prince Bayo Adeleke, a former commissioner for local government during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, serves as a timely reminder to stakeholders and party faithful in the Osun APC. He cautioned against heating the polity regarding the 2026 governorship election, emphasizing the need to avoid jeopardizing the party's strength and triggering disunity among members.

While Prince Adeleke's statement is commendable, it raises questions about the timing and sincerity of his concerns. Critics argue that he and his allies have been propagating the "Osun West l'okan" agenda, which has created unnecessary tension within the party. Notably, Hon. Remi Omowaiye has been at the forefront of promoting this agenda, even attacking those who refuse to align with it.

For instance, at a recent book launch in Abuja, Omowaiye attacked a former councillor from Aagba in Boripe LG, Hon. Ayombo simply because he didn't support the agenda. This behaviour is unacceptable and undermines the party's unity. On good authority, it was learned that Hon Bayo Adeleke was present during the incident, but he did not caution Remi Owowaiye.

There is a common slogan always being used by the usual suspects that goes, "If Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola decides not to contest in 2026, our ticket should go to Osun West". If Hon Adeleke wants to be sincere and genuine, he should call the progenitor of this line out and caution them but because it suits his agenda and perhaps, he uses the same line, he did not deem it fit to caution them.

As far as I know, the unnecessary squabbling started with Hon Omowaiye and Hon Sunday Akere, who went on a radio programme to issue the unsolicited statement. These are the people Hon Adeleke should caution and call to order before any other party members.

Prince Adeleke's statement would carry more weight if he had cautioned those promoting the "Osun West l'okan" agenda, rather than remaining silent. It is essential to respect the party's leadership, including the  pioneer National Chairman of APC, Chief Adebisi Akande, The minister of blue and Marine Economy, His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola, the national secretary of APC, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru and the state chairman of APC in Osun state, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal

The party's leadership must take decisive action to address the growing tension. They should call Remi Omowaiye and his cohorts to order before they destroy the party's chances ahead of the 2026 governorship election. The party's unity and strength are paramount, and it is crucial to prioritize them above personal interests.

Ultimately, the Osun APC must work towards unity and avoid actions that could weaken the party's chances in the 2026 election. The ruling PDP is the common enemy, and all hands must be on deck to dislodge them. We welcome Prince Adeleke's new approach, but it must be genuine and followed by concrete actions to promote party unity.
